Dodge Viper Ta 2.0

Dodge Viper Ta 2.0

How many cars can you count that have had more special editions than the legendary Dodge (SRT) Viper?  It's been more than a year now, since the GEN V or 5th generation of the Dodge Viper has ended production. While the GEN V Viper had the special 1 of 1 program on the Viper GTC, the GEN V Viper had a dozen of limited special edition cars available to choose from. Let's take a look at them…

2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition. (SRT).

12: The 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition.

Being the very first special edition Viper to come out of the woodwork, this Viper not only pays homage to both Viper Coupe reveals in 1996 and 2006, but it also celebrates its resurgence from death. Wearing the iconic GTS Blue paint with dual Bright White racing stripes that adorned the 1996 and 2006 cars, this Viper gets an exclusive blue background in the "Stryker" logo (on the exterior and interior), a serialized dash plaque (on the passenger side) and a set of "Rattler" Polished Aluminum wheels that complete the heritage look.

Production Numbers: 150.

2014 SRT Viper GTS Anodized Carbon Edition. (SRT).

11: The 2014 SRT Viper GTS Anodized Carbon Special Edition.

Unlike the very bright blue Viper above, this Viper is more subtle than the 12th car on this list… if by "subtle" I mean a metallic matte black rolling atmosphere of sinister. Then yeah, it's totally more subtle than the Launch Edition. The Anodized Carbon Edition has the aforementioned Metallic Matte Black paint job, gloss black "GTS" badges, satin black exhaust bezel, Anodized Carbon fuel filler door, a set of surprisingly well-suited orange brake calipers, carbon fiber brake ducts, and rear applique.

If you've noticed, this car also shares the same rim design as the Launch Edition. The rim is called "Rattler." Unlike The Launch Edition; which has a more traditional chrome look to it, this special edition Viper has what FCA calls the "Black Vapor Chrome" on them. Tying the whole look together.

If we go to the interior, the Anodized Carbon Special Edition Viper has an Alcantara wrapped headliner, door bolsters and knee blockers, orange accent stitching on the Nappa leather wrapped door trim, center console, instrument panel, and door panel. Additionally, there are carbon fiber accents on the interior as well, throughout the center stack, door panels, and steering wheel.

Production Numbers: 40 (a total of 50, but see #9 for the additional 10).

2014 SRT Viper TA in TA Orange. (SRT).

10: The 2014 SRT Viper TA Special Edition.

No, TA does not stand for "Trans Am" when we talk Vipers. It stands for "Time Attack" and is the designation this model has been bestowed with is very fitting. The Viper TA has three exclusive colors: TA Orange, Venom Black, and Bright White. Of which there was 93 in TA Orange, 33 in Venom Black, and 33 Bright White TA Vipers made.

TA Vipers have a unique, race-tuned calibration for the two-mode Bilstein DampTronic suspension system, retuned springs, shocks, and road-racing derived sway bars which offer firmer levels of damping and a smaller spread between the different suspension modes than the Viper GTS. The Viper TA also gets the optional, lighter carbon fiber X-brace as standard and the optional rear carbon fiber applique as standard. The brakes were also subject to the TA treatment. This Viper gets new (at the time) Brembo two-piece, 32 millimeters wide, high thermal capacity rotors and pads… simply put, the brakes do a better job of not getting hot so quickly. Meaning they can go for extended periods of time before overheating.

Of course, you can't talk about the TA without mentioning the aero kit. The TA comes with what FCA calls the "Advanced Aerodynamics Package". This includes the infamous dual carbon fiber front splitters and rear ducktail spoiler. All of this combined means the aerodynamic downforce is boosted by some 700 percent at 150 mph according to FCA.

The one thing they didn't change on the Viper TA was the tires. The Pirelli P-Zero Corsas aren't standard on normal Vipers. They're apart of the optional "Track Pack". Not so on the TA, on the TA they're standard equipment. As they should be, given that this is a track special after all.

If we take a look on the inside, we see that the interior is adorned in normal black upholstery. Where the TA differs from other Vipers is in the stitching. The fine details. The TA has orange accent stitching on the cloth seats, instrument panel (through the cowl), center stack, console, handbrake, shifter boot, shifter head, steering wheel and on the upper door panel.

Production Numbers: 159.

2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon w/ Time Attack Group. (SRT).

9: The 2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon w/Time Attack Group.

This Anodized Carbon Viper is pretty much the same as the "normal" Anodized Carbon Viper. Except for one key detail: It has the Time Attack Group. This adds all the chassis and aerodynamic enhancements of the TA onto the Anodized Carbon GTS. Nothing more, nothing less.

Production Numbers: 10 (this 10 units, added to the 40 additional regular GTS Anodized Carbon models made up a total of 50 units).

2015 Dodge Viper TA 2.0 in Competition Blue. (Dodge).

8: The 2015 Dodge Viper TA 2.0

After the success of the first TA Viper, Dodge decided to double down on the track prowess of the TA model by adding even more downforce via new dive planes, carbon fiber front corner splitters with extended rub strips and a new rear wing (which is obviously larger than that of the TA 1.0). All of this adds up. Where the old TA made 278 pounds of downforce at 150 MPH, the TA 2.0 makes 400 pounds of downforce at the same speed.

Like the previous TA, this one gets a unique race-tuned calibration for the two-mode Bilstein DampTronic suspension system, retuned springs, shocks, and road-racing derived sway bars. Which, as before, offer firmer levels of damping and a smaller spread between the different suspension modes than the Viper GTS. This TA also gets the lighter carbon fiber X-Brace as standard. The brakes are the same as the old TA and the standard tires are the same.

Moving into the interior, the TA 2.0 is the same as the old TA. Even down to the orange stitching.

Despite all the similarities, there are more differences that set the TA 2.0 apart from the TA 1.0. Chief among them is the addition of the then-new Competition Blue and Y'Orange paint. Venom Black was also an option but not a new color. Like the old TA, the production units would be limited by color. So there would be 32 units of the aforementioned colors.

Production Numbers: 96.

2015 Dodge Viper GTS Ceramic Blue Edition. (Dodge).

7: The 2015 Dodge Viper Ceramic Blue Edition.

The 2015 Dodge Viper Ceramic Blue Edition, as the name implies, has an exclusive Ceramic Blue exterior paint color with black stripes and five-spoke "Rattler" wheels finished in "Black Vapor Chrome". Other exterior features include the usual GTS sill badge, unusual Satin Black exhaust bezel, Ceramic Blue fuel filler door, orange brake calipers, carbon fiber brake ducts, and rear applique.

If we go inside, the Ceramic Blue Edition's interior has an Alcantara wrapped headliner, door bolsters, and knee blockers; silver accent stitching on the Nappa Leather-wrapped door trim, center console, door panel and instrument panel (as well as on the Nappa Leather and Alcantara seats). Carbon Fiber accents are can be found on the center stack, door panels, and steering wheel. Topping it all off, the Ceramic Blue Edition gets an exclusive serialized GTS Badge that adorns the passenger side of the dashboard. Making it easy to identify the production number.

Production Numbers: 40.

2017 Dodge Viper ACR-E Dealer Edition. (Mecum Auctions).

6: The 2017 Dodge Viper Dealer Edition ACR-E.

Yes, there was a one-year gap between the 2015 Special Edition Vipers and the onslaught that became 2017. Ending the GEN V Viper run with a bang, Dodge decided to not make one, not two, not three, but 5 special editions to send off the Viper. They were all announced at the same time, so there isn't any specific order to the last special editions I'm about to cover. Starting with the Dealer Edition ACR. This Viper was only available through the dealers that sold the most Vipers. Those being Tomball Dodge of Tomball, Texas, and Roanoke Dodge of Roanoke, Illinois.

Adorned in the Viper White exterior color with competition blue center stripe and adrenaline red driver's stripe, carbon ceramic brakes, the extreme aero package, ACR interior with red accent stitching, a serialized instrument panel ACR badge and custom car cover that matches the exterior, it'd be hard to mistake this special edition Viper for one of the others. Oh, and that car cover? It has the custom name (given by the owner) above the driver's door. How is cool is that!

Production Number: 22.

2017 Dodge Viper TA/ACR-E. (Cody Wagner).

5: The 2017 Dodge Viper TA/ACR-E.

"Huh? What kind of weird online photoshop combination is this?" Rest assured, this is indeed a real Viper special edition. Certainly a combination I never expected, the Viper TA/ACR-E combines the best parts of the TA and ACR-E (hence the name). This special edition Viper comes with the ACR-E's carbon ceramic brakes and aero kit. The TA aspect comes in with the black brake calipers with orange text and the TA interior. That's right, it gets the Y'Orange accent stitching from the TA models.

Production Numbers: 10.

2017 Dodge Viper Snakeskin Edition GTC. (Dodge).

4: The 2017 Dodge Viper Snakeskin Edition GTC and ACR.

Poetically inspired by the 2010 Snakeskin Green ACR; one of the special edition Vipers that signified the end of the Gen IV Viper, this Viper features a new Snakeskin Green exterior paint with a seriously cool snakeskin pattern in the SRT Stripe. Along with the Advanced Aerodynamics Package, GT Black interior, serialized instrument panel Snakeskin badge, and a custom car cover that matches the exterior paint and showcases the customer name above the driver's side door.

Later, after all the cars had sold out in less than 4 days, they added an ACR version of the same car. It has the serialized instrument panel Saneskin badge like the GTC, Snakeskin Green exterior paint, snakeskin pattern on the SRT stripe, and car cover (but with room for the ACR wing). The difference?

Being that it is an ACR, it has the Extreme Aero Package, ACR Interior, Carbon Ceramic Brakes.

Production Numbers for the GTC: 25.

Production Numbers for the ACR: 31.

2017 Dodge Viper VoooDoo II Edition ACR-E. (Dodge).

3: The Dodge Viper VoooDoo II Edition ACR.

Another special edition inspired from the Viper's past, this special edition originates from the Gen IV ACR. If you really want to get in-depth, the original VoooDoo Viper was based on Ralph Gilles (Head of FCA Design) personal GEN IV Viper. Now on the Gen V ACR, it has a black exterior with a graphite metallic ACR driver's stripe with a red tracer outline, Extreme Aero Package, Carbon Ceramic brakes, VoooDoo II exterior sill decals, ACR interior with silver accent stitching, serialized instrument panel VoooDoo II badge and custom car cover that matches the exterior paint scheme and showcases the customer name above the driver's side door.

Production Numbers: 31.

2017 Dodge Viper 1:28 Edition ACR-E. (Dodge).

2: The Dodge Viper 1:28 Edition ACR.

Do you remember when Dodge broke the record at Laguna Seca in a Gen IV ACR? When they did, they celebrated the event by making Viper ACR 1:33 Edition? This is for the very same occasion. Except this time set a time of 1:28. Hence the name.

This 1:28 Edition; much like the one before it, features a black exterior with a red center and driver's stripe that goes on top of the wing. Unlike the 1:28 Edition of yesteryear, this one features the Extreme Aero Package, Carbon Ceramic Brakes, 1:28 Edition sill decal, ACR Interior with red accent stitching, serialized instrument panel 1:28 Edition badge, along with a custom car cover that matches the exterior paint scheme and showcases the customer name above the driver's side door.

Production Numbers: 28.

2017 Dodge Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR-E. (Dodge).

1: The Dodge Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR.

Born from the depths of Vipers' past, this modern leviathan pays tribute to one of the most iconic Vipers to have graced the automotive industry. No, not the 1992 R/T10 Roadster,  1996 GTS Coupe, 2008 ACR or indeed the 2016 ACR-E (Extreme Package). I'm talking about the 1998 Viper GTS-R GT2 Championship Edition. Made to celebrate the Viper GTS-R's various racing success, this modern interpretation has a Pearl White exterior with Blue Pearl GTS stripes, the Extreme Aero Package, Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Exterior Carbon Fiber Package, unique red Stryker badge decal, GTS-R sill decal, USA B-Pillar flag decals, ACR Interior with red accent stitching, Header Red seatbelts, serialized GTS-R badge and a custom car cover that matches the exterior paint scheme and showcases the name above the driver's door.

Production Numbers: 100.
